New Cutter Commissioned in St. Pete

Congratulations to Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg!  On May 11th, the Pablo Valent, the 48th Sentinel-class fast response cutter, was commissioned into service.  This new vessel will be home ported at the station in the Innovation District.  It will have missions including search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, coastal security, and living marine resources.

The cutter’s namesake Pablo Valent was originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, and joined the United States Life-Saving Service (precursor to the Coast Guard) in 1912. In September 1919, Valent helped rescue the crew of the hurricane-damaged schooner Cape Horn off the coast of Texas.

Members of the Maritime and Defense Tech Hub (next door to the Coast Guard Station) joined to celebrate the new Cutter.
