On May 2nd, we will hold the 3rd Annual OSE / VFW Day of Service Cleanup...and Celebration! We are partnering with the City, two youth/school programs, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, and Living Shoreline experts from Tampa Bay Watch. This cleanup event also celebrates our successful Lassing Park Living Shoreline Restoration Project, in partnership with the City of St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay Watch, and the Old Southeast Neighborhood, with additional support from the Waterfront Parks Foundation and the Frank Pierce Recreation Center Teen Program.
The event will be held from 9-11 am. The meeting location is the north end of Lassing Park, across from 1511 Beach Drive SE: https://maps.app.goo.gl/o1xR3buXqSnyTCtYA This location is adjacent to the Lassing Park Living Shoreline Restoration Project. We are celebrating the successful implementation of the Lassing Park Living Shoreline Restoration Project. That reclaimed area is included in our cleanup with guidance from Tampa Bay Watch experts.
Between volunteers and youth groups, I expect 35-50 participants. We may have brief remarks from the City of St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay Watch, and me, or other participating organizations.
Background, Day of Service: The fifth annual VFW Day of Service is part of the VFW’s Still Serving campaign and unites veterans across America around a common goal — showing the nation the impact veterans make in their communities. As a Marine combat veteran, this will be my 3rd year of creating a service opportunity in the Old Southeast.
