It's pretty cool to see an industrial-sized composter right here in the community tackling food waste in an innovative way.
USF St. Petersburg and the City of St. Petersburg have launched the GreenCycle composting initiative, turning food waste from campus dining into nutrient-rich compost. What starts on campus could grow into a community-wide system collecting food waste from local businesses, markets and farms — and returning that waste to the community as a resource.
We remember when the Student Green Energy Fund (SGEF) helped bring an ORCA composter into the USF St. Petersburg dining hall in 2019. Supported by $100,000 from SGEF, that spirit of innovation is scaling up. Hear the news straight from USFSP here.
