Many of you know there is a small but mighty Innovation District team – Luke Farris (intern), Lauren Bell, and Alison Barlow. The District is thrilled to announce the expansion of the Innovation District team to include Nisuka Williams, District Community Manager and Amber Pacetti, Hub Coordinator. See below for brief introductions they have shared about themselves.
Meet Nisuka
A Florida girl at heart, I took time to explore more of the East Coast, living and working in New York City and Washington D.C. In both cities, I pursued projects investigating how water shapes people and development. The opportunities were boundless. I had small business, federal government, and academic experiences where I could apply my skills. When I returned home to St. Petersburg, I realized everything was right here. The University of South Florida, Albert Whitted Airport, and the places where I had worked and played have all become part of the Innovation District. St. Pete has blossomed into a center for art and innovation, and as the District continues to grow, it’s putting St. Petersburg on the map in more ways than one.
I am excited to rejoin my community in my new role and I look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events! Be sure to explore the rest of this newsletter to stay up to date with everything happening in the Innovation District.
Meet Amber
Nineteen years ago, I left my family’s farm in the mountains and headed to St. Pete to explore an education and career in marine science. My career path led me to explore a wide range of fields, including research, animal care, funeral arts, behavior analytics, and art curation. While my formal education is rooted in the sciences, I am equally passionate about the “A” in STEAM: Art! In my spare time, I curate art shows that often benefit causes such as wildlife rescue and children’s literacy. You may have even seen some of my art shows featured in the news! Additionally, I have enjoyed volunteering at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for the last nine years.
My new role at SPID has allowed me to integrate my diverse interests while supporting and nurturing our vibrant community members engaged in STEAM education and careers. I am excited to harness my diverse background and continue to learn, grow, and find new ways to foster meaningful connections while driving positive change within the District and beyond!
We will host another Trolley Tour and Happy Hour on Friday, June 13th. You will board a trolley with other Innovation District partners and learn about the history and future plans for the area. This tour will feature stops at Albert Whitted Airport, Florida Institute of Oceanography, and The Dalí Museum. The tour will conclude back at the Hub with a networking happy hour.
April’s event, Morning Sparks: Innovation X-change (GIS...Beyond Mapping) was postponed, but we're still buzzing with ideas. Whether you're a mapping enthusiast or not quite sure what GIS even stands for, we’d love to know: is there a topic you'd like us to explore next? What kind of innovation in this space sparks your curiosity?
