Accelerating Discovery

Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital is innovating again with the Translational Research and Innovation Laboratory (TRAIL), a new research model designed to accelerate the pace at which scientific discoveries move from the laboratory into patient care. TRAIL emphasizes translational research—a collaborative approach in which teams of scientists and clinicians work side by side to solve unmet clinical needs while bringing frontline clinical observations back to the lab to inspire the next breakthrough. This innovative model, recently outlined in Nature Medicine, addresses traditional barriers between basic science and clinical application, helping to streamline discoveries that directly improve patient outcomes.
